WordPress plugin · Version 1.4.0 · MIT
Your reach, charted live.
Explorator draws a live map of your visitors for the hero of your WordPress site. It runs on your own server: no map tiles, no API keys, and no raw IP addresses kept.
Free and open source.

03 · For agencies
One map for many sites
Run Explorator on one hub site and add a single script tag to each client site, WordPress or not. Every site feeds the same map, grouped by source.
How it works
02 · The survey
Built for the hero of a corporate site.
A dotted map or a 3D globe
Drawn on a canvas from a land grid that ships inside the plugin, with detailed coastlines. The globe only loads when someone asks for it.
Live, and online now
A Live view that refreshes every few seconds, and an always-on count of visitors from the last 30 minutes.
Six time windows
Live, today, the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days and the last year.
Pins, a heatmap, or both
A density view for sites with heavy traffic, where thousands of pins would blur together.
Your colours
Four built-in themes, a hex input for every layer, or match a CSS variable your site already uses so the pins wear your brand colour.
Reports and alerts
Weekly or monthly email summaries, alerts for traffic spikes and new countries, and signed webhooks for all three.
Embed it anywhere
A read API with its own token puts the map on another site, and a script tag feeds sites without WordPress into it.
Multisite
Optionally roll every site in a WordPress network into one map.
03 · Privacy
Drawn on your server, not someone else’s.
The map, the counts and the history all live in your own WordPress database. A visitor is stored as a hash that changes every day, never as an IP address. One choice decides how private your install is: how an address becomes a place.
MaxMind GeoLite2, recommended
Offline · instant · no rate limit
- Lookups happen on your own server, so nothing about a visitor leaves it.
- A reader is built in, so no PHP extension is needed.
- Checked byte for byte against MaxMind’s own reader.
- Needs a free MaxMind account and the database file on your server, refreshed now and then.
ip-api.com, the no-setup fallback
Works at once · rate limited
- Nothing to set up, which is handy for a first look.
- Visitor IP addresses are sent to ip-api.com to be looked up. That is why we don’t call this setup private.
- About 45 lookups a minute across all your traffic.
- Fine for staging; switch before real visitors arrive.
Also built in: Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are honoured, a consent gate can wait for your cookie banner, locations can be coarsened to country level, and old visits are pruned on the schedule you set.
04 · Readable without the map
A map is a poor way to read a number.
So the numbers are always there as text, and the map is built to be used without a mouse.
Screen readers
A live summary of the totals and the busiest places, updated with the map.
Keyboard
Every control works from the keyboard, and the arrow keys step through the pins.
A plain table
Site admins can switch any view to a table of locations, pages or referrers, and download it as CSV.
Motion and contrast
Honours reduced motion, high contrast and forced colours, and stops animating when the map is off screen.
05 · Fixed points
What won’t change.
Your server, your data. The map is drawn on your site from files inside the plugin. There is no account with us and no tile service in between.
No raw IP addresses. Visitors are stored as a daily-changing hash that can’t be turned back into an address.
Upgrades keep your data. Settings, visit history and the pages you’ve already built carry forward from one version to the next.
Readable without the map. The totals are always available as text, for screen readers and anyone else.
Put it on your site.
